Uzbekistan – Travel Information

1. Entry & Visa

German, Austrian and Swiss nationals can enter Uzbekistan visa-free for tourist stays of up to 30 days. The passport should still be valid for at least 6 months on entry. Within a few days of arrival, registration is usually completed automatically by the hotel – for private accommodation you have to register yourself.

2. Travel Season & Climate

Uzbekistan has a pronounced continental climate with hot, dry summers and cold winters. The best time for cultural trips is spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October), when temperatures are mild and the bazaars and old towns are easy to explore on foot. In high summer, temperatures often exceed 40 °C, especially in the Kyzylkum desert region.

3. Health & Safety

The usual standard vaccinations are recommended for Uzbekistan; in addition, travellers should seek individual advice from a tropical or travel medicine specialist before departure. International travel health insurance is strongly recommended and is even a prerequisite for certain visa types. Tap water should not be drunk; bottled water is available everywhere. Uzbekistan is generally regarded as a safe country for travellers.

4. Currency & Payment

The local currency is the Uzbek soʻm (UZS). Credit cards are increasingly accepted in larger cities and hotels, but payment in bazaars and rural areas is mostly in cash. Euros and US dollars can be exchanged without difficulty at banks and official exchange offices; we advise against changing money on the street.
